Today, during Square Enix’s E3 2019 live presentation hosted in Los Angeles, the publisher announced a remaster for Final Fantasy VIII.
The remaster will come in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
Here’s an official description directly from Square Enix
“Announced during the SQUARE ENIX E3 Live event earlier today, FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered brings the game’s classic story to modern platforms, now with newly rendered visuals that bring the game’s characters to life like never before.
In FINAL FANTASY VIII, the military nation of Galbadia has declared war on the Dukedom of Dollet, who must hire the mercenary force, SeeD. Squall Leonhart, a new member of SeeD, together with his friends and Rinoa Heartilly, a member of a resistance group, get pulled into the war, unaware of their fated task to save the world.”
Final Fantasy VIII was originally released on PlayStation in 1999, followed by a PC version in 2000. Square Enix has gone on record before citing that a remaster would be difficult, but it appears that they managed to make the stars align. That’s just great, considering that it’s one of my favorite Final Fantasy games of all times.
The announcement came alongside a trailer, which you can enjoy below.
