Today, at the PlayStation September Showcase 2021, Tango Gameworks’ upcoming PS5 exclusive, Ghostwire Tokyo, received a brand new trailer showcasing Shinji Mikami’s paranormal action title in all its creepy glory. Go ahead and feast your eyes on the new footage down below:
As you can see, the new video pulls back the curtain on the eerie and mysterious action-horror title. Not only do we see phantoms possessing people to a chorus of screams and yelling, but we also get a taster of the first-person action gameplay as well.
From the looks of things, you’ll be able to blast ghostly entities with bolts of energy and also teleport across long distances with a bunch of newfangled superpowers. Not only will you have to contend with headless high school students, but you’ll also go toe-to-toe with a menagerie of faceless floating spirits that really want to see you pushing up the daisies. Finally, we also get a glimpse of an ominous character – dubbed Hannya – who appears to be the game’s main antagonist.
Ghostwire Tokyo is all set for a Spring 2022 release window and will be coming exclusively to PS5.
For more information, here’s the rundown courtesy of the PlayStation Blog:
Step into Tango Softworks’ vision of Tokyo, an ultra-modern cityscape of skyscrapers, traditional shrines, narrow alleyways, massive crossings and neon-lit shops – now teeming with spirits and supernatural happenings.
Players awaken in an abandoned street crossing as Tokyo’s population disappears, without a clue as to where they’ve gone or why. There’s no time to question why you’ve been spared as otherworldly Visitors attack the city, seemingly led by a masked man known as Hannya and his acolytes.
And for a little more story intel, here’s a snippet from the game’s official press release:
Hannya has unleashed a catastrophic fog upon Tokyo that wipes out most of its population. In the aftermath, he leads the Faceless, a menacing group of loyal zealots who bend to his will. Where smiling citizens once walked now stands an army of one-of-a-kind creatures only Tango Gameworks can create: The Visitors.
Inspired by Japanese legends, folklore, and tales, The Visitors are striking, imaginative enemies that lurk throughout Tokyo. Many characters are from famed dark stories like “Kuchisake-onna,” characters that stay true to Tango’s desire to honor Tokyo through an authentic, never-before-seen game world.
Awakening in the famed Shibuya Crossing, Akito finds himself partially possessed by a strange spirit and surrounded by the dangerous creatures invading Tokyo. Desperate to ensure the safety of his sister, Akito must ally with the spirit and master powerful abilities to battle his way through Tokyo’s dangerous streets.
