EA’s Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen hinted at a possible release window for the publisher’s upcoming Star Wars IP during a panel at the 37th Nasdaq Investor Conference earlier today. According to the man, it seems as if the title won’t be coming out anytime soon.
Though a firm release hasn’t been decided as of late, Motive Studio’s new action IP headed by Jade Raymond could come as late as fiscal year 2021 or 2022. This positions the game between the dates of April 2020 and March 2022, which is quite a large gap of time should you be dying for more information.
Previously, fans had learned that this new Star Wars game was set to release in fiscal year 2021. Evidently it seems as though EA may not be comfortable enough relegating the game to such a time frame and prefers the boarder one mentioned above instead.
The publisher did bear some good news during the presentation however, reconfirming that BioWare’s highly anticipated next title Anthem is indeed set for release during the company’s next fiscal year ending on March 31, 2019.
Additionally, EA talked about research and development and how it divides its budget accordingly. About 75% is attributed toward existing franchises whereas about 25% is spent on new IP in the vein of Anthem or Motive’s Star Wars game. The company feels it necessary to dedicate a large portion of the budget to new IP so as to generate innovation, the likes of which EA is simply not ready to show at the moment.
