Who doesn’t love a shotgun? Hopefully not you, because Destiny’s are getting a big change in the upcoming 2.0.1 Patch.
This week’s update post went over some immediate balance changes targeting range on all shotguns. Even after the 2.0 balance overhaul scaled back on the range buffs offered by Shot Package and Rangefinder, Bungie believes long-range shotguns equipped with Shot Package are still pushing their luck. In response to “unanimous” community feedback, Shot Package will be taking a forced leave of absence in an attempt to reign shotguns back into close-quarter combat.
“With the deployment of Update 2.0.1, we will wholesale remove the Shot Package perk from all Shotguns,” Senior Designer Jon Weisnewski explained. “Any shotgun with Shot Package (depending on the exact weapon) will now have Close and/or Personal, Crowd Control, or Knee Pads.”
“This change has not negatively impacted our PVE playtests,” the post adds. Because each class has access to movement upgrades and most Crucible maps allow for flanking and small combat areas, Bungie expects Shotguns to continue to see strong PvP play.
It isn’t necessarily the end for Shot Package, in case you were already planning some sort of strange perk funeral. Bungie says it’s currently “on a time-out,” and hopes to bring it back after testing out effective ranges.
