Blizzcon kicked off, unexpectantly, with some Destiny 2 news. The game will now be fully-playable on PC for free via Battle.net until November 18. The giveaway is to mark the game’s one year anniversary on PC, with the game being free indefinitely for anyone who downloads the title in this window.
It appears Bungie are trying to facilitate an injection of new players for Destiny 2 by lowering the barrier of entry. The game went “free” for PlayStation Plus owners in September, too, implying that the studio is attempting to do this across the board.
The current free download will come with a “gift” for new players. During the announcement at Blizzcon, game director Steve Cotton received quite a few boos from the audience, but the decision to move to free to play will likely be hugely popular.
Bungie announced earlier this month that the year one DLC, Curse of Osiris and Warmind, would be included in Forsaken. The game’s year two expansions cleaned up a lot of the game’s issues, so be sure to pick it up for free on PC – it’s worth a try.
