Griftlands 2

Who would’ve thought that card games would become such a phenomenon in the modern gaming zeitgeist, eh? Yes, if you’re anything like me, you might have a big ol’ soft spot for deck-building roguelikes like Slay The Spire, Cross Blitz, Monster Train or Rise Of The Slime. Developed by Canadian outfit Klei Entertainment – a well-established studio with a rich history creating an eclectic variety of indie hits like Don’t Starve, N+, Mark Of The Ninja and Invisible Inc. – Griftlands is a sci-fi deck-builder roguelike with RPG elements. Check out the game’s latest launch trailer down below:

As you can see, Griftlands offers tactical turn-based gameplay intermixed with a strong narrative focus. You’ll battle challenging bosses, build a team, master hundreds of cards, make important consequential decisions and explore a mysterious sci-fi world. Here’s the rundown courtesy of the game’s official Steam page:

Griftlands is a deck-building rogue-like where you fight and negotiate your way through a broken-down sci-fi world. Every decision is important, be it the jobs you take, the friends you make, or the cards you collect. Death comes quickly, but each play offers new situations and strategies to explore.

Play as Sal, Rook, or Smith. Three unique character campaigns with their own specialized decks, abilities and maps to explore. Sal is an adventurer out for profit and revenge. Rook is an aging spy working his own agenda. Smith is an idle loafer who might just save the world. Each playable character’s story takes place in a unique environment, with different factions and locations to explore and exploit.

But tell us, will you be picking up Griftlands? Or will you be giving it a wide berth? Shuffle your decks in the usual place down below.

Griftlands is available now for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
