Today legendary Metal Gear Solid Creator Hideo Kojima was in a teasing mood, so he showcased two new images of Death Stranding.
The images shot off the screen with a monochrome filter, show gameplay of the upcoming title, likely from Kojima-san’s playtesting sessions.
We get to see the protagonist Sam Porter hiding behind a rock (with a nice close up on his backpack and spare boots, which appear super-detailed), and another look at him standing near a creek in the mountains.
An interesting element I noticed is that the number of spare boots hanging from the backpack appears to be variable. This is just my speculation, but the game might actually include a mechanic that involves Sam’s boots wearing out and needing to be replaced. Another possibility is that he could have different boots for different terrain.

If you’re wondering about the text, Kojima-san is simply saying that he is living a “cicada-life” because he isn’t able to go to E3 in Los Angeles or Wonder Festival in Shanghai.
If you want to know more about Death Stranding, you can take a look at the latest English trailer, the Japanese version with additional footage and a different song, and a recent gallery of beautiful images.
Recently Hideo Kojima talked about the creation of the game at Tribeca Film Festival, while he made a few comments on the state of development a few weeks ago. He also shared a detailed timeline of the early years of the game alongside his undying gratitude for Guerrilla Games, and more comments about the game’s genre.
Death Stranding is coming to PS4 on November 8, 2019.
