First of all, we get the introduction of multiple new characters, including the dormitory manager Midra, her worker Shiz Melonis (that’s her name, I didn’t make it up), Julietta from the local child care agency, and Japanese-Italian archaeologist Kajita Rosso, played by gaming personality Mafia Kajita.

Several characters from the previous games are also returning, including Lily Hopes, Al Astra, Clea Glaive, Lucil Filarete, and Celica Clayton.

Moving on to the game flow, we get to see that it alternates between day and night. During the day, we’ll be able to gather information in the dormitory and in town.

At night, the city becomes affected by a curse, with monsters appearing and attacking.

At night the town is infested by monsters and mysterious “black shadows.”Those are considered something coming from outside our world, and they will pursue the protagonist when they appear. What happens if they’re caught remains a mystery.

Hacking can be used to interfere with surveillance cameras and to perform jumps that would normally be impossible, reaching previously unreachable areas. It’s even possible to destroy certain obstacles with a virtual bat.

Defeat in battle isn’t the only game over in Death End re;Quest 2. If you make the wrong choices, you may get to see a grotesque bad ending that “challenges the limits of the CERO D (over 17) rating.”

That being said, you can go back to the previous choice from the game over screen.

On top of that, options that you have already selected in the visual novel-like adventure part will have a checkmark when you revisit them, so you can explore the different outcomes.

Last, but not least, we get to see a collaboration with the cult horror game Ao Oni.

Compile Heart revealed Death End re;Quest 2 a few months ago after teasing it for a few days and it’s the sequel to Death End re;Quest, which has recently been released in the west for PS4 and PC.

The release date in Japan is set for February 13, exclusively (for now) for PS4. No western release has been announced for now. Hopefully, the good folks at Idea Factory international will deliver soon.

If you want to see more, you can enjoy the first trailer and the key art, a lot of recent scereenshots that came with story and gameplay details, and the latest trailer.
