It’s delay season, apparently, and CD Projekt Red’s anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 is the latest victim. The developer has announced today that the game won’t make its April launch date and will now debut later. Much later, in fact: Cyberpunk 2077 is now scheduled for a Sept. 17 release.

That’s a delay of 5 months, which means it’ll be launching only a month or so before the next console generation is expected to make its arrival.

CD Projekt Red cites more time as necessary to ensure an extra level of polish as reason for the decision. It promises to keep players in the loop with development updates moving forward.

Today’s news comes by way of an announcement over on Twitter that included the below message.

CD Projekt Red’s best-known game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also experienced a similar delay before its release. It was originally scheduled to launch three months prior to its eventual May 2015 window.

And we know how that one turned out, right? It’s widely regarded as one of the best games ever made. So, it’s worth keeping that in mind as you come to terms with today’s news is disappointing; better for CDPR to take its time in developing another instant classic than rush out something unfinished.

As a small consolation, you can at least check out this recent Cyberpunk 2077 PS1 Demake made in Dreams.
