Cuphead is a great looking game currently being developed by StudioMDHR and was announced for the Xbox One and Microsoft Windows during 2016’s E3. The game uses a very distinct style of animation inspired by cartoons from the 1930s. It has long been speculated as to whether Cuphead is a timed exclusive but it seems that’s not the case. It is totally exclusive to Microsoft, meaning we shouldn’t expect to see it come to the PlayStation 4 or the Nintendo Switch.
The news was confirmed in a NeoGAF thread where a user asked the developer whether the title was “100 per cent lifetime PC/Microsoft exclusive”. Another user named ‘Teeth’ replied, saying: “Yes, this Cuphead game is exclusive to Xbox and PC (with Steam and Win10 versions at launch and a GOG release likely shortly after). There will likely be a Mac version down the road and possibly a Linux version beyond that (unless we lose our houses or whatever).
“We own the Cuphead IP.”
Eurogamer then followed up the thread by contacting NeoGAF regarding the user’s authenticity. It was confirmed that the user ‘Teeth’ is in fact Tyler Moldenhauer, digital painter and QA at StudioMDHR.
No doubt non-Xbox gamers will wish the game was coming to other platforms but exclusives are just a part of the video game industry. Cuphead is set to be released on the Xbox One and Microsoft Windows on September 29.
