Xbox Indie Darling Cuphead Delayed Until 2017

Making the jump to next year.

Though originally meant to launch in fall of this year, the developers behind Cuphead have announced the game won’t be jumping onto your Xbox One and PC until sometime in 2017. A bullet hell, sidescrolling platformer, all produced through 1930s-style animation, Cuphead is set as the next highly anticipated indie title to hit Xbox One. Fans will just have to wait a bit longer.

“Hey everyone,” developer Studio MDHR writes on their site, “we wanted to finish our game 80 years after 1936 but it will now be 81.” A Japanese propaganda film that debuted in 1936 largely inspires the Cuphead character.

“Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact.” Instead, the game will release on Xbox One and PC mid-2017.
