Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered has had microtransactions added to the game following a recent update, despite the fact that the original game did not feature any microtransactions.

As GameSpot reports, random loot drops known as Supply Drops have been added to the game and can be purchased via Call of Duty Points which can be purchased with real money or earned in-game. The Supply Drops only include cosmetic items such as weapon camos and character skins, non of which will give players an advantage on the battlefield and all of which can be unlocked for free by playing the game.

Players can also purchase new melee weapons to fight with such as a hammer or a shovel. The update also introduces Salvage from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which grants players the ability to craft new items using parts found. Six female fighters were added as well as six new maps from the original game.

Some players may welcome these additions, while others may argue that this strays from the original game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is currently only available to those who bought a special edition version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It remains to be seen as to whether the game will be made available to all.
