borderlands 3, cross-play

Borderlands 3. These words have been on every gamers’ lips for the past several days, and for good reason. However, if you plan to buy the game on PC, you might have to temper your expectations.

Gearbox just revealed a new trailer for Borderlands 3, and it is gorgeous. Psychos everywhere, guns galore, and some much-needed revelations about the main characters’ names and abilities. For example, the woman with the Tank Girl helmet can summon a giant mech that looks like a cross between a Vital Suit from Lost Planet and Overwatch’s Bastion.

The trailer hypes up Borderlands 3 to the nth degree and also teases pre-order bonuses and the release date: September 13th. That’s plenty of time to pre-order the game and get some epic weapon skins, right? Well, yes, but here’s the kicker: you can only currently buy the game for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via the Epic Games Store.

Borderlands 3 is yet another game that passed up the established digital distribution titan known as Steam for Epic’s steadily growing launcher, but this news isn’t as bad as it might seem. Unlike other titles whose publishers opted for year-long exclusivity,  Borderlands 3 will only be an Epic Games Store exclusive for six months (this has been confirmed by sites such as Kotaku). It still won’t release on Steam until 2020, but it should come out on Valve’s juggernaut of a platform before the other Epic Games Store timed exclusives.

Since every other Borderlands title is on Steam, some gamers are bound to be disappointed. However, Borderlands 3 is still coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, so anyone who is miffed by the Epic Games Store exclusivity can still experience all the gunplay and phat loot on their non-PC console of choice.

Even though Borderlands 3 will release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via the Epic Games Store on September 13th, 2019, Steam and other digital storefront users will have to wait until April 2020. For more news on Borderlands 3, stick with Twinfinite.
