Though THQ Nordic announced during Gamescom in August this past year that it would be publishing Biomutant, the two entities remained independent of each other from an ownership standpoint. Today’s announcement means that the publisher will not only acquire the studio responsible for making the game, but acquire the Biomutant IP as well.

All of Experiment 101’s shares are now in possession of Nordic, marking the fourth Swedish company the publisher has acquired alongside the likes of Mirage Game Studios, Foxglove Studios, and Pieces Interactive.

Experiment 101 was founded by Just Cause game director Stefan Ljungqvist. The man decided to leave Avalanche Studios in 2015 in order to create his own company, the likes of which is now introducing to the industry a new IP by way of Biomutant.

Speaking of the game itself, it’s set to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC next year though an exact date is unknown as of this time. THQ Nordic has promised that more information regarding the title will be coming next year in time for its launch.

Announced this past summer, Biomutant is said to feature “varied and deep character progression” and promises that players will be allowed to explore the title’s three systematically generated worlds by “foot, mech, air-balloon, jet ski, and UFO.” Here’s hoping that the game lives up to the hype.
