Indie game Axiom Verge is finally seeing its physical release across PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch, allowing developer Tom Happ the privilege of letting everyone know of the game’s accomplishment via the title’s official website.
Happ filled his audience in on the journey that Axiom Verge took from self-published indie game to physical title, disclosing that the process was quite a lengthy and emotion one as re-certification by the platform owners, scheduling production, tracking shipments, and more were all required to reach the point that Happ is at today.
The developer went on to add that the publisher for the game’s physical editions, BadLand Games, offered to donate 75% of their share of profits toward the ongoing healthcare of Happ’s son. Axiom Verge’s creator doesn’t shy away from posting pictures of his son online, you see, in an attempt to spread awareness of Kernicterus, a neurological condition that effects motor function and hearing.
“They didn’t want to publicize it, since none of us wanted to be seen as trying to use my son’s suffering as a marketing tool for the game. I hope this doesn’t come off that way. I just wanted to thank them for their generosity in offering that up, since it was definitely something they didn’t have to do,” said Happ.
BadLand Games was willing to donate the proceeds on their own accord, moved by the developer’s mission.
Whatever one may think of this, there’s no denying that it’s refreshing to see goodwill being fostered by the gaming community as of late. Here’s hoping more news stories like this arise in the near future.
