Astral Chain

Today, during the Nintendo Treehouse E3 coverage, PlatinumGames showcased the very first gameplay of Astral Chain.

The gameplay was presented by Game Director Takahisa Taura, and starts with character customization. Interestingly, we learn that the way we customize our character will also influence what their sibling will look like, which makes sense.

On top of that, we get to take a look at plenty of action gameplay, including a section on a motorbike, plenty of combat, and even some tutorial sections in the training room. If it looks familiar, that’s because Taura-san was the Lead Gameplay Designer of NieR: Automata.

The later moments of the demo show a battle against a massive Chimera named Briareos. I wonder if that’s a homage to Masamune Shirow’s Appleseed, considering that the setting certainly feels similar.

You can check out the video below.

One thing is for sure, the game looks absolutely fantastic, and I absolutely adore the art style by Masakatsu Katsura, which you may know for Video Girl Ai,  I”s, and Zetman.

Astral Chain will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch on August 30 both in North America and Europe.
