Ashes of Creation is an ambitious MMORPG that is looking to shake up the genre in a lot of interesting and positive ways. Still, clearly, they aren’t above borrowing from some of the most popular gaming trends when it suits them.
Developers Intrepid Studios announced late last night that they are adding a battle royale game mode to stand alongside the MMORPG game proper.
Here’s the description via Intrepid Studios:
“Ashes of Creation Apocalypse delivers a self-contained, standalone experience for fans of competitive action, combat, and chaos.
The game will launch with a full-fledged battle royale mode in which 100 players will duke it out with destructive weapons and magic until the last person is left standing.
After release, new unique modes will be introduced, letting 200 players join forces in massive castle siege battles, as well as co-op horde mode missions in which small groups must fight off ravenous hordes of vicious demons.”
Despite being a standalone experience, Apocalypse will be tied to the main game. It’s a prequel to Ashes of Creation, and cosmetic items can be earned while playing and then transferred over to your character in the MMORPG proper.
This isn’t the first MMORPG to announce they are adding a battle royale mode, but it’s becoming evident that it’s probably not going to be the last one.
I’m bracing myself for the news that Final Fantasy XIV, my MMORPG of choice, will be getting one soon as well. Which honestly, doesn’t sound too terrible now that I think about it…
If Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse sounds like something you could get into, sign ups are open now for the beta which begins Dec. 18. If you want to see it in action, you’re in luck. Alongside the announcement, Intrepid Studios released a trailer which you can check out above if you’re so inclined.
As crazy as I think this all is, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think that it looked pretty fun.
