A new Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown trailer debuted at Gamescom today and can be found below, courtesy of publisher Bandai Namco.
In the dramatic two minute sequence, fans are treated to a snippet of the flight game’s narrative from the perspective of the Kingdom of Erusea. The latest iteration in the Ace Combat series tells its story from conflicting points of view as the fictional countries of Osea and Erusea wage war with one another in the world of Strangereal. This universe isn’t too unlike our own, yet noticeable differences in geography exist (presumably for gameplay purposes).
If you’ve been following the Ace Combat storylines for some time now, you know what to expect with Ace Combat 7. After numerous territory disputes, Erusea decides to attack the controversial space elevator invading their land. Osea notices this and retaliates, thereby initiating war with its closest neighbor with neither country taking responsibility for the conflict. Political intrigue certainly won’t be sparse in this entry.
Revealed at Sony’s PlayStation Experience two years ago, the title was confirmed for a multiplatform release in a trailer released this past January. Including PlayStation VR support and two-player local multiplayer, Ace Combat 7 serves as the direct sequel to Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. As evidenced in today’s trailer, the game utilizes Unreal Engine 4 to marvelous effect, rivaling some of the best visuals this generation of hardware has ever seen.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown releases sometime next year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
