The Tool Shop in Mabe Village is one of those places you’re going to find yourself revisiting fairly frequently in Zelda Link’s Awakening. It’s where you’ll be able to get Bombs, the Bow and Arrow, Heart Containers, and more in exchange for Rupees. Of course, if you want to save Link some cash, it is possible to get yourself a five-finger discount. Here’s how to steal items from the Tool Shop in Zelda Link’s Awakening.
Stealing Items in Link’s Awakening
- Head to the Tool Shop in Mabe Village
This is the village you start off at in Link’s Awakening.
- Pick Up the Item You Want to Steal
This can be done by walking over to it and pressing B to interact with it. Link will then hold it over his head.
- Walk Over to the Shopkeeper
Don’t head for the door yet. Walk around the Shopkeeper in circles continuously until he gets dizzy.
- Leave the Shop
You’ll have successfully stolen items from the Tool Shop.
First off, as we’ve described in the steps above, you’ll need to actually get to the Tool Shop in Mabe Village.
Once you arrive here, you’ll need to head inside and walk on over to the item you want to steal. All available items in the store can be interacted with by walking over to them and pressing B.
Link will then carry the item above his head in his typical way. Now, rather than simply trying to do a runner with your chosen item to steal, you’ll instead want to walk over to the shopkeeper.
You may have noticed that his gaze will follow you wherever you go in the shop, so let’s use this to our advantage. Basically, start walking around him in circles. Continue to do this until he gets dizzy and can no longer keep watching you.
At this point, you’re then free to make a run for it out the door. Congratulations, you’ve successfully stolen items in Link’s Awakening.
Consequences of Stealing
That being said, just because you’ve made it out the door, doesn’t mean you’ve got away completely Scott-free. If you ever return to the Tool Shop, the shopkeeper will recognize you and use a powerful spell attack that’s a one-hit-kill no matter what how many hearts you’ve acquired.
While you’ll then have to select the ‘Retry’ option and will respawn from the last place you saved, you do get to keep the item you stole. We recommend manually saving just before you head inside the shop so you can seamlessly continue your adventure after you’ve committed your crime.
One final thing, we highly recommend using this method to get the bow and arrows in Link’s Awakening. They cost 980 Rupees otherwise, and nobody got time for that when evil has to be stopped.
