Early on in your adventure in Zelda Link’s Awakening, you’re going to be told by an owl that you need to head to the Mysterious Forest. Upon arriving there, you’ll be told to find a key to open a nearby dungeon. Problem is, there’s a very annoying raccoon that’ll get in your way. Here’s how to get past the raccoon in the Mysterious Forest in Zelda Link’s Awakening.
Getting Past the Raccoon in the Mysterious Forest
After heading north a little bit, you’ll eventually come to a raccoon that sounds like he’s banging a drum. If you go and speak to him, he’ll say something about being a raccoon and being sensitive to powders.
Try going past him and he’ll tell you you’re going to get lost because of him and laughs. Nice guy! Anyway, don’t bother going back to him, because you’re going to need to do some other work first.
Getting the Toadstool in Link’s Awakening
From where the raccoon is, head south and then take your first right. You should end up coming across a log tunnel that you can crawl through. Head through here, opening the optional chest and grabbing the heart container as you go and make it out the other end of the cave. Beat the enemy and pick up the Toadstool.
Visiting the Witch for Magic Powder
Come back through the cave and out the other side. Now head north until you reach another log tunnel with three rocks in a triangle surrounding it and go right. This should bring you a little bit out of the Mysterious Forest. Follow the path around until you find a spooky-looking treehouse.
Speak to the Witch inside and she’ll take the Toadstool off you and give you Magic Powder. Press + to open the Items menu, select it with the left analog stick, and then press either X or Y to assign it to that button.
Using the Magic Powder to Get Past the Raccoon in Link’s Awakening
Now all you need to do is go back over to where the raccoon was in the Mysterious Forest, walk right in front of him and press whatever button you assigned Magic Powder to. This will blow it all over him, causing him to kinda bounce around the surrounding area for a bit.
After a while, he transforms back into a human and talks about how what just happened came about.
Head just north up the path past the raccoon to get the Tail Key to open Tail Cave just south of the village.
