Zelda Breath of the Wild: How to Get the Hylian Shield (The Best Shield)

Hylian Shield – Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Recommended Videos

With Epona as your steed and the Master Sword as your weapon, you will be come virtually unstoppable in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You’re just missing one important piece, the Hylian Shield, which is an iconic item found in many entries of the Zelda series. It’s not unbreakable like the Master Sword, but it can take way more punishment than any other shield in the game, meaning you won’t see it break for a very, very long time.

To obtain this item you’ll have to head to the most dangerous area in Breath of the Wild, Hyrule Castle. Don’t worry, though, you’re not heading in through the front which is where the biggest challenge awaits players, you’re actually sneaking around back. Head north of the castle, which is at the north of the map. You’ll find a platform you can glide too that leads to Hyrule Castle Underground, a deep dungeon under the palace. Make your way down, defeating whatever enemies get in your way, until you reach a large room with a bunch of bones in the middle. Enter, and Stalnox will rise (which is just like a Hinox, only made entirely of bones). We recommend saving right before you fight it.

Stasis will help you in this fight, especially if it’s been upgraded, as it will help you land those shots to its one eye with your bow much more quickly. After a shot to the eye, it will fall down, giving you a few seconds to get some melee attacks. Get out of range when it starts to get back up. Rinse and repeat. When all the health is gone, the eye will roll out of Stalnox’s head, allowing you to destroy it for good. Do so, or it will build back up again, forcing you to continue the fight until you knock it back out.

When Stalnox is dead, a chest will appear in the room. You’ll find the Hylian Shield inside.
