How to Get More Heat Resistance – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Recommended Videos

Dealing with extreme heat is nothing particularly new for the Zelda franchise, as Link has always needed to don some kind of protective wear  and boost his heat resistance so he doesn’t burn up and die. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is no different, however, outside of just special armor there are a few ways to keep this legendary hero from perishing and helping him cool down.

One of the most common is by collecting and eating Melons which can be found in the Gerudo Desert. When you eat these they will cool Link down and allow him to continue trekking through overheated environments, temporarily boosting his heat resistance. However, the best way via food to ensure success is by cooking the melons which will turn them into Hydromelons which gives Link a cooling buff when activated.

You can also purchase fireproof potions in Breath of the Wild from Gaile at the Foothill Stables to boost heat resistance, which is west of Cephla Lake and in the Eldin Region. This merchant will sell these concoctions in sets of 1, 2, or 3. The prices are as followed:

  • 1 Fireproof Potion – 60 Rupees
  • 2 Fireproof Potions – 110 Rupees
  • 3 Fireproof Potions – 150 Rupees

The other method of boosting heat resistance in Breath of the Wild  is by wearing one of two specific sets of armor that will permanently keep Link cool when he is exploring the desert. One of these is the Gerudo Outfit which is obtained from a merchant on top of the Kara Kara Bazaar at noon. This item is required to advance the story of Breath of the Wild so there is little doubt you’ll obtain this outfit in no time.

Our second set of clothing is called the Flamebreaker armor and it can be found by a man named Kima at the Southern Mines in Death Mountain. Kima is willing to trade you for it if you can catch 10 flameproof lizards which are also found in the mine. Wearing either of these sets will keep Link cool and completely boost his heat resistance in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so try to always have one on you while exploring.

Did we happen to mention if Link doesn’t cool down he will literally explode into flames and die? Yeah, maybe carrying melons isn’t the worst thing to happen in the Gerudo Desert.
