Announced a couple years back via the excellent Zero Hour short, Overwatch 2 is finally getting a playable build this year. Is Overwatch 2 Free?

Yes, Overwatch 2 will be free as Blizzard announced during the Xbox showcase that they are adopting a free-to-play model for the game when it releases in October. This means that even if you don’t own the base game, you’ll be able to jump in for free and enjoy all of the new maps and heroes that get released.

That being said, not everything will be made for free, as Blizzard is also adopting a freemium Battle Pass system with Overwatch 2. The Battle Pass features a free track, where F2P players will be able to unlock a variety of cosmetics at no charge, and they’ll also be able to unlock a new hero that season upon reaching tier 55.

The paid track, on the other hand, lets you unlock the new hero straight away, while also giving you a 20% experience boost for the Battle Pass. Paid players will also be able to get a new Mythic skin upon completing the Battle Pass.

Finally, one other thing to note is that Battle Passes can be bought with Overwatch Coins, the new in-game currency. Coins are earned by completing weekly challenges, and you should be able to get about 60 each week, assuming that you’re diligent about knocking out your weeklies. This will allow F2P players to purchase a Battle Pass for 1,000 Coins every other season. Coins can also be bought with real money in the cash shop.

In addition to new PvP modes and characters, Overwatch 2 is also getting tons of PvE content including a story mode and Hero Missions, where players can team up together and fight AI enemies.

That’s all you need to know about whether Overwatch 2 will be free. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more news and information on the game.
