Wondering why Bobby the local shoots his finger off after Nick bites it in Chapter 3 of The Quarry? This guide will explain everything you need to know, but be warned, we’re diving into some serious spoiler territory, so if you’re wanting to enjoy the game spoiler-free, turn back now.
During Chapter 3, Nick and Abi are the two counselors to have the first encounter with the monster that’ll be terrorizing the group for the remainder of the game. While Abi can avoid being attacked, Nick isn’t so lucky, and is mauled by the monster.
Depending on how fast you are reaching Kaitlyn and Ryan, and how well you do with the quick time events when you’re running to find Nick as Ryan, you may see Bobby the local dragging Nick away. If you’re not fast enough, they’ll have already disappeared by the time Ryan gets there.
If you do make it in time, Nick will bite the finger of Bobby the local and break free from his clutches, allowing him to get away with Ryan and back to the safety of the group.
After Nick has bitten Bobby’s finger, the local pulls out his pistol, aims at his finger and shoots it off at point blank range. But why does he do that?
One last final spoiler warning here. If you don’t want major plot points of The Quarry spoiling, turn back now.
Why Does Bobby Shoot His Finger Off After Nick Bites It?
Because Nick has been bitten by the monster, he is now infected and carries the virus. He can now pass this onto other people by biting them, and will eventually succumb to the virus himself, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s dead.
The reason why Bobby shoots his finger off immediately is to stop the infection from spreading into the rest of his body and, in doing so, prevents himself from being turned into a monster. His fast actions allow him to survive, albeit a little maimed from the bite from Nick.
This is actually an important thing to remember later on in The Quarry, as this isn’t the last time you’re going to encounter the monster. Having this valuable piece of information may allow you to keep some of the counselors alive.
