Valorant Ranked Release Date: Everything We Know So Far

Valorant released in full in earlier this month in tandem with a substantial update that both added and removed content from the beta experience. The ranked mode was, unfortunately, one feature that has been removed for the time being. Here’s everything we know about Valorant’s ranked release date.

Valorant Ranked Release Date: Everything We Know So Far

For its full release, Valorant’s ranked mode has been temporarily sidelined for fine-tuning. Riot Games explains the decision in Update 1.0’s patch notes:

“Similar to our closed beta launch, our initial focus is making sure our service is stable before activating competitive matchmaking. This is also a way to give new players the same courtesy that closed beta players had to learn the game ahead of turning on Competitive.

We’ll also make some adjustments to Competitive based on remaining closed beta player feedback. Our plan is to turn on Competitive a few patches into our launch.”

Other than that, we don’t really have a timeline as to when Ranked play is set to make its return. Although, we don’t expect it to be too far away. New multiplayer games such as Valorant are typically patched frequently after their launch, so when Riot cites “a few patches,” that could easily be before the end of July.

Update 06/23/20: Valorant’s Competitive ranked mode is set for launch the week ending 06/28/20. See our latest news post for details here.

Valorant Ranks Explained

It’s likely that Riot Games will make changes to the ranked mode we played during Valorant’s closed beta, but it should still be fairly similar in structure. So, here’s a look at what ranked mode looked like before:

  • Iron
  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • Diamond
  • Immortal
  • Valorant

As you can see, there are eight different ranks, each with three tiers. Ranked was unlocked only once a player had completed 20 “Unrated” matches.

Once you had unlocked competitive play, climbing the rankings was as simple as consistently playing in ranked mode. Wins and kills helped you notch up experience faster in the lower rankings, while they became less important as you got past Silver and Gold.

Valorant also took into account how each game was won. A dominant performance, for example, would reap a different amount of experience from a game that was super close.

While Valorant’s beta ranked mode didn’t require you to play consistently to keep your progress, you would have to play within 14 days from your last game to have your rank actually display during matches. Whether that will be the case for the full version remains to be seen, but it seems likely given that it encourages players to stay invested.

For now, that’s everything we know about Valorant’s ranked mode and when it will release. As soon as we know more we’ll update this guide. For more information on the game, search Twinfinite.
