Before you build and use a raft in Valheim, you’ll need to have built a workbench. You can read our guide on exactly to do that here.

Now that you have your workbench sorted, craft a raft with x20 Wood, x6 Hide, and x6 Resin. From here, select Hammer icon, Miscellaneous tab, and left click to drop the raft into the water. You’ll obviously need to position yourself along the waterfront, which is unlikely to be far from your settlement but does require you to build a separate work bench specifically for the raft.

How to Use Raft in Valheim

Rafts in Valheim are piloted either using the wind to sail or by using the rudder to move manually.

To sail, you will need to make sure your raft is with the wind, as opposed to against it, which is denoted by a white symbol. If the symbol is red you will need to resort to rudder power only, which is operated via the standard WASD controls.

There are three speeds: slow, medium, and fast. To move, first push the raft (assuming it is beached), then press W to move forward using the rudder. Now press W again to deploy the sail (only if you are with the wind).
