Valheim, How to Get Amber and What to Do With it

Survival is the name of the game in Valheim, and to do so, you’ll need all the resources you can find. However, the game isn’t always clear about what each resource is used for, or even how you’re supposed to get them on a regular basis. As such, you wouldn’t be alone in wondering how to get Amber and what it does in Valheim, with it being one of the more enigmatic materials out there.

Fortunately for you, we’ve taken some time to research and experiment with the game, and have come up with some tips, tricks and info to clear up some of that confusion.

How to Get Amber & What to Do With It in Valheim

To start, there are a couple of ways you can come across Amber while playing Valheim.

It can appear as both an item found in chests and an item dropped by enemies after they’re defeated. Pieces of it will appear as a small rectangular chunk, and take up 0.7 units of your carrying capacity per piece.

As opposed to ores or building materials like wood though, there’s not really a crafting purpose for the stuff. Instead, it’s best to sell it to a merchant for a tidy sum of money, and then use the funds you acquire to buy crafting resources and other useful items.

Where to Find a Merchant

With this in mind, it’s best to know where you can find a merchant in Valheim sooner rather than later, so that you can sell your Amber.

Fortunately, this is something you can achieve with minimal hassle. Simply search around the Black Forest area, and before long a bag icon should appear on your map showing you where you can find a traveling merchant named Haldor. His location is randomized based on your seed though, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t find him immediately.

That’s all there is to know about how to get amber and what to do with it in Valheim. For more on the game, check out some of our other guides on topics like how to level ground, as well as the recent news that the title shipped one million units in its first week.
