Tunic Gold Coins: What They Do & How to Get Them

gold coins tunic

Tunic’s world is teeming with mysteries for players to solve. The game doesn’t hold your hand, instead dropping the occasional page of an in-game instruction manual reminiscent of the ones you’d get back in the 90’s and early noughties that’d contain little tips on how the various mechanics worked. One of the first mysteries you’ll need to try and figure out revolves around Tunic’s Gold Coins, specifically what their use is in the game, and how you can use them.

What to do With Gold Coins in Tunic

Given how vague things are in Tunic (until you’ve got the right instruction manual page), you’ll likely be wondering what you’re supposed to do with these shiny coins. If you equip them and try to use them in most places, our cute fox protagonist will just flip it before putting it back away.

Instead, you want to take a Gold Coin to one of the various wells dotted around the world. When stood next to one, press the button you’ve equipped the coin to, and you’ll flip it into the well, before some bright light shines out of it.

When you’ve flipped three coins into wells, you’ll get an additional ‘card’ slot where you can equip an additional ‘buff’ item.

All Gold Coin Upgrades

As shown in page 20 of the in-game instruction manual, you’ll unlock additional ‘card’ slots after throwing in the following number of Gold Coins:

  • 3
  • 6
  • 10
  • 15

Gold Coin Locations

Gold Coins can be found in treasure chests throughout the world. The contents of these chests varies and can include items for upgrading, or other consumables, but from our experience, this is the main way you’ll get Gold Coins in Tunic.

Alternatively, you can visit the creepy skeleton merchant NPC in the windmill just west of where you start out and buy them for 999 of the game’s unnamed currency. Given you can spend this on permanently upgrading your stats, however, these shouldn’t be your top priority.

That’s everything you need to know about those mysterious Gold Coins. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and tricks.
