Starting New Game Plus in Tokyo Mirage Sessions Encore

It should come without saying, but you won’t be able to start new game plus in Tokyo Mirage Sessions Encore until you’ve at least beaten the game and watched the credits roll once.

After that, you’ll then receive a little in-game notification informing you that you’ve unlocked new game plus mode.

To start new game plus, simply load your clear save file from the main menu. This will allow you to start new game plus, and let you carry certain things over to your next playthrough.

What’s Different in New Game Plus?

New game plus essentially allows you to start the adventure over, but with things being a fair bit tougher. To help you against your stronger enemies, the following also carry over in new game plus from your original playthrough:

  • Character Levels
  • Stage Ranks
  • Carnages
  • Accessories
  • Items
  • Money
  • Unlocked Shop Stock
  • Achievements
  • Costumes
  • Trophies
  • Overall Playtime

It’s not just about experiencing the same thing over again with some retained bits and pieces, though.

New game plus also introduces a new Lunatic difficulty level that’s incredibly punishing. This prevents almost all but your achievements, costumes, trophies and overall playtime from carrying over if you select this difficulty, making it far more challenging.

To round things off, players then have a secret boss battle that can only be taken on in Tokyo Mirage Sessions Encore’s new game plus, as well as Side Quests 49 and 50, which are incredibly tricky on their own.

Finally, there are new Carnage Weapons that can only be obtained in new game plus. As such, it’s well worth your time checking the mode out if you’ve been a big fan of the game from your first playthrough.
