How to Install Mods for The Sims 4

Recommended Videos

If you’ve been really wanting to mess with your Sims, or just give them the extravagant lifestyle you think they deserve, you’ll probably want to install mods or Custom Content (CC) for The Sims 4. Fortunately, it’s actually a pretty painless process as long as you know what you’re doing, so let us talk you through it.

First things first, boot up the game. You’ll want to navigate to the Game Options menu and then select ‘Other’ on the side. Make sure that the ‘Enable Custom Content and Mods’ box is ticked. Once you’ve done that, exit out of the game for the next step.

You’ll now need to navigate to your The Sims 4 folder on your PC. The following route path should be correct unless you changed it when installing The Sims 4 on your system.

  • Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4

Once you’ve navigated here, you simply need to create a new folder and call it ‘Mods’. With that out of the way simply add the mod files into this folder and you’ll be good to go. One thing that is worth noting, however, is to make sure that your mods are the correct file types. The following file types are compatible:

  • .package
  • .ts4script
  • .zip

You should only have .zip files in the folder for older script mods that don’t use the ‘.ts4script’ extension above. To check whether a mod needs to be zipped or not, simply look inside and if it’s a .pyo file, keep it zipped. If not, let it free!

And that’s all you need to know to install mods for The Sims 4. If you need a little inspiration for which ones you should install for The Sims 4, be sure to check out our list of the top 100 best here.
