How to Unlock Dark Zones in The Division 2

Recommended Videos

The Division 2 is back in full force. The original game got off to a rocky start but by the end of its lifespan, had righted the ship in a lot of ways. The Division 2 will look to put that all together into a solid launch day package. Of course though, people are wondering how to unlock Dark Zones in The Division 2.

The Dark Zone is arguably the premiere and most unique feature to The Division series. It’s a lawless, wild-west like area full of loot where it’s hard to tell who is your friend, and who is someone that could potentially go rogue and take you out. You always need to be sharp while in one of these.

Unlocking All Three Dark Zones

To unlock all of the Dark Zones in The Division 2, you need to upgrade the Theater Settlement three times in order to recruit Ezra. She is an officer that will allow you to unlock all of the Dark Zones.

You upgrade the theater settlement simply by completing its missions. So definitely prioritize getting this area in order if unlocking the Dark Zones ASAP is your goal.

Also, by upgrading the settlement twice, you’ll also unlock the abilities to form clans. Another helpful new feature.

Major Changes From the First Game

Prior to release, Twinfinite had extensive hands-on time with the new Dark Zones. It’s quite different than what you might remember from the first game.  There’s a new rogue loop mechanic which provides you a steady stream of loot, but will attract potentially aggressive player characters to your position.

More importantly though, two of the three Dark Zones (on rotation) will be normalized, giving new players a better chance of survival and a safer place to get gear by evening out stat/level differences.

However, one will always be “occupied” and that Dark Zone will have no rules, no normalization but better rewards.

That does it for how to unlock the Dark Zones in The Division 2. For more tips, tricks, and FAQs answered, be sure to check out our wiki guide for The Division 2.
