Once you chase down Shadow Mario for the first time, he’ll jump into Bianco Hills, which is the first level that you’ll go through in the game. But it turns out that there’s a boss fight at the end of the second episode, which seems to be troubling new players.

Once your encounter with Petey begins, there will be smaller enemies crawling around that can damage you if you’re not too careful. Simply avoid them or splash them with water.

Now you’re going to want to wait until Petey Piranha has his mouth open and once he does, spray water into his mouth until he’s full of water. The best way to do this is by standing still and shooting water by holding down the R button, but make sure not to waste your water.

Once he is all filled up, his belly button will be exposed (don’t ask) and he’ll lie belly-up on the floor. This is your chance to get on top of him and then perform a ground pound on his belly button by jumping and then pressing ZL. There will also be a big arrow in-game that’ll help you out, which you can see in the image below.

After you damage Petey Piranha once, Petey will go back to his regular state but he will get angrier and stronger. You just need to repeat the above steps three times and he’ll be defeated, leaving Mario with a sparkling new Shine Sprite.

And that’s it! That’s all you need to know about how to beat Petey Piranha in Super Mario Sunshine. If you’re looking for more tips and tricks for the Super Mario 3D All Stars collection, check out our Guide Wiki right here.
