super mario maker 2, green flag, story mode, luigi

Super Mario Maker 2 may not drastically change anything from the original game, but there are a number of enhancements and little changes. Chief among these is the addition of a full-fledged story mode that has you rebuilding Princess Peach’s Castle. While playing through the story mode you might notice a green flag, different from the usual red one, so here’s what the green flag means in Super Mario Maker 2.

What the Green Flag Means in Super Mario Maker 2

As you’re playing through the various levels and jobs in Super Mario Maker 2’s story mode, each one will get a red flag next to it when you complete it. At times, however, you’ll see a green flag pop up next to completed jobs, and there’s a reason for this.

If you find yourself struggling during a job in the game, at some point, Luigi will pop up with a message and offer his assistance. If you accept the help you’ll be able to play as Luigi himself, even having the option to press the minus button and build up his build menu to help you finish the job.

Now that’s the reason for the green flag, playing as Luigi. Any level you accept Luigi’s help and finish as him will be marked with the green flag, instead of the red one.

The good news is that this doesn’t really affect anything outside of the icon; you’ll still get paid and contribute toward rebuilding the castle. If you really want all those red flags, though, you’ll need to beat the level again as only Mario.

That’s everything you need to know about what the green flag means in Super Mario Maker 2. For even more tips, tricks, and guides make sure to search Twinfinite, or check out a few other helpful ones just below.
