For the first time, Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy have come together in one package as the 3D All Stars collection. You’re now able to take three classic 3D platformers on the go with the Switch. In the case of 64, it’s not much more than a port of the original, but you might still need a reminder on how everything works. So that you do not lose your progress as you hunt for stars, here’s everything you need to know about how to save in Super Mario 64 in 3D All Stars.
To complete the game, you need to collect 70 of the 120 stars in the game and then beat Bowser. The way you save in the game is tied to that collecting aim and it’s nice and simple.
How to Save in Super Mario 64
Since it’s an old game, there’s no auto-save function for you. The only way to save is to select the right option after you’ve found a star.
Every time you do get one, a small menu will pop up, asking if you want to save. You’ll have three options: Save & Continue, Save & Quit, and Continue & Don’t Save.
Just select the one you want, the ones that save the game being pretty obvious, and you’ll be safe in the knowledge that you’ll go back to that point if you leave the game before the next time you get a star.
Unfortunatly, there is no way to save in Super Mario 64 between stars. You’ll have to decide whether to keep playing until you get another star or to sacrifice the progress you’ve made since the last one if you’re wanting to put 3D All Stars down.
