How to Take Selfies and Photos in Splatoon 2
Splatoon 2 gives you a shiny new version of Inkopolis to run around in, once again filled with other players and colorful characters. Luckily, the game does give you the option to take photos by holding down the right trigger and hitting the capture button on the Joy-Con. There is also an option to take posed selfies around Inkopolis, however, there’s a bit of a catch.
The only way we’ve found to take selfies is with amiibo, by interacting with them at the figure box at the back of Inkopolis. When you scan an amiibo in, they’ll ask if you want to be friends and they’ll save your gear loadout. After that, the figure will also ask you if you want to take pictures around Inkopolis. Here, you’ll be able to take selfies with whichever character you’re currently hanging out in Splatoon 2 with. The compatible figures include the new Splatoon 2 amiibo, as well as the Inklings and squid from the first game.
If you hit the plus button after choosing to take pictures, you can bring up controls showing you how to change locations, take selfies and a range of poses, and move the camera around. Once you’ve got things set up, just hit the right trigger to snap a photo, and it’ll be saved to your album on the Switch home menu. While you can take pictures with the capture button, at the moment there doesn’t seem to be any other way to take selfies. We’ll make sure to update this guide if anything changes in that regard.
