How to Break Throws & Counter in SoulCalibur VI

Here’s what you need to know to break throws and counter in SoulCalibur VI.

SoulCalibur VI is the latest entry in the popular Japanese fighting game series developed by Bandai Namco. After a long wait and the disappointment that was SoulCalibur V, this sixth entry looks to be a solid return to form. Interestingly, Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher 3 is also featured as a guest character in this game. While it might seem a little out of place at first, he actually ends up being a pretty good fit for the game.

Of course, in order to get proficient with Geralt or any other character in the game, you’ll first need to learn how to break throws. This is a pretty basic move in the game, but if you’re wondering how to break throws and counter in SoulCalibur VI, here’s what you need to know.

In order to break throws and counter opponents in the game, all you need to do is hit the throw button once an enemy tries to pull off a grab and throw on you. So if you’re playing on PS4, you’ll want to press either the L2 button or Square and X at the same time once the enemy’s throw touches you. And on Xbox One, the button inputs are LT or X and A at the same time.

By doing this, you’ll be able to break the enemy’s throw attempt and shove them back a little bit, allowing you to mitigate the damage you would’ve received from that maneuver. This also opens your foes up for a very brief period of time to let you counterattack, or perhaps react with a grab and throw of your own. It can be pretty tricky to get the timing down, so you’ll always want to make sure you’re keeping a close eye on what your opponent is doing, and react as quickly as you can once you see that they’re going for a command grab.

This is a pretty good way to shift the fight in your favor, and also prevent you from taking more damage than you need to.

And that’s pretty much all you need to know about how to break throws and counter your opponents in SoulCalibur VI.
