Here’s everything you need to know about how to get upgrade skills in Smash Bros Ultimate World of Light.

In Smash Bros Ultimate’s World of Light mode, you take part in a series of fights, as you’d expect. If and when you win these fights, you’re rewarded with snacks, spirits, Skill Spheres, Spirit Points, and Gold. It’s those Skill Spheres that’ll you’ll want for upgrading abilities in World of Light, though.

Spheres are in-game items (a currency of sorts) that are needed for unlocking abilities, and then upgrading them, on the board. The skills can grant a variety of bonus effects, such as increasing your aerial damage or increasing the window you have for a perfect shield. Everything you unlock with them is beneficial, so you’ll want to rack up as many as possible.

To access the Tree in Smash Bros Ultimate’s World of Light, you will need to hit the + button on your Nintendo Switch controller of choice and head to the Tree menu, where you’ll be able to choose the ability and upgrade you want.

Skill Spheres can also be found in some chests around the Smash Bros Ultimate world, or they can be purchased from the shops in Adventure Mode. Before heading out to purchase them, you’ll have to find the shops on the world map, however.
