Skyrim’s expansion pack “Hearthfire” allows players to build multiple homes throughout the game. These locations are locked, but players can choose to upgrade and decorate them by collecting materials found across the land. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get Sawn Logs in Skyrim.

They’re one of the most important materials for this expansion and they can be obtained in a couple of different ways.

How to Get Sawn Logs

The easiest way to obtain Sawn Logs is to purchase them from any lumber mill found in the game. The running cost for 20 Sawn Logs is 200 Septims. While this can become quite pricey if you need large amounts it might be easier to get them through another method.

If you become friends with the mill’s owners, they will let you cut down the trees yourself and it will save you the coin. In order to become friends with those owners, all you have to do is sell them some firewood and they will be grateful.

After selling enough firewood, you can ask them for permission to cut down the trees in the surrounding area. They are more likely to say yes if you ask them inside their own home rather than when they are at work.

After gaining permission you can begin to cut down the trees and gain ten Sawn logs per log. Down below is a list of every mill that can be found in Skyrim

  • Anga’s Mill, west of Windhelm
  • Deadwood Lumber Mill, Falkreath
  • Dragon Bridge Lumber Camp, Haafingar
  • Half-Moon Mill, Falkreath Hold at Lake Ilinalta
  • Heartwood Mill, The Rift, at Lake Honrich
  • Ivarstead’s, The Rift
  • Mixwater Mill, Eastmarch
  • Morthal’s, Hjaalmarch
  • Riverwood’s, Whiterun Hold
  • Solitude Sawmill, Haafingar
