How to Do the Not So Berry Challenge in The Sims 4
For those who aren’t sure what exactly a Berry Sim is, it’s a colorful Sim that is typically named after some sort of sweet treat. Whether it be a blue Sim named after blueberry pie or a vivid Laffy Taffy-themed family, Berry Sims are just vivid creations that are meant to be a ton of fun and break up the mundane. While it seems like a silly idea at first, creating Berry Sims actually turns into a pretty good time. With that being said, it’s no surprise that a legacy challenge made with Berry Sims in mind has become a popular way to play The Sims 4. The Not So Berry Challenge is a type of legacy challenge that utilizes different colors to mark each new generation. The irony here is that the challenge is made to fit players who might not actually be into the Berry Sim movement but are slightly intrigued by the idea. So whether you love the idea of having a family of Sims that look like they escaped the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory or you want to keep a sense or normalcy and stray away from vivid, unnatural skin colors the Not So Berry Challenge still has something to offer you.
The most basic explanation of the challenge is this—you’re playing through a full 10 generation legacy that uses colors to mark each new generation of Sim. It’s really that simple. The only twist here is that each generation and color has a story behind it that will determine things like your Sim’s traits and aspirations for you. The good news for those who aren’t into the Berry Sim idea is that these Sims actually don’t have to be Berry Sims—hence the name of the challenge being Not So Berry. Rather than having to create an entire Berry Sim family complete with quirky skin tones, you just have to make sure the heir for each generation represents their corresponding color through their hair, clothes, eyes, or other features. The unnatural skin colors, however, are not a requirement of the Not So Berry Challenge.
So without further ado, let’s dive right into the generation breakdown.
First: The Mint Generation
The heir of the Mint Generation is a sort of mad scientist Sim who is inexplicably obsessed with the color mint. While this Sim is passionate about their career and works very hard, this Sim still loves a good prank. In other words, their work ethics shouldn’t be confused with a lack of whimsy. This is a fun-loving Sim who just wants the best for their family.
The Mint Generation heir must:
- Have Vegetarian, Jealous, and Materialistic traits
- Have Chief of Mischief aspiration
- Be on the Scientist career path and master this career

Second: The Rose Generation
The heir of the Rose Generation is a bit spoiled. This is a Sim who received everything they wanted as a child but that didn’t necessarily fill every void in this Sim’s life. - Get married but only after their grandparent from the Mint Generation has passed
Fourth: The Grey Generation
The heir to the Grey Generation has always been a bit of a black sheep in the family but not in the way you might expect. This Sim feels like an outsider simply because they would take being active and outside over spending hours in a lab any day. Despite coming from a lineage of science-loving Sims, this Sim is a natural athlete with dreams of playing professionally one day. Not to mention that all those years of feeling disconnected from the rest of the family has made this Sim desperate to have a positive, close relationship with their own kids.

Every cent mattered for this Sim growing up and finances have always remained a priority. Unfortunately, the need to cling to financial security has caused this Sim to turn their back on their passion of writing romance novels. Leaving a good job to become an author just isn’t practical and this Sim keeps that in mind. Eventually, however, the Pink Generation heir finally takes a chance and goes for their wildest dream. This Sim embarks on a journey to become a successful author all while their own awkward tendencies get in the way of their personal love life.

So while the rest of the world may see this Sim’s life goals as odd and unusual, that won’t be enough to deter them from charging forward with it anyway. This Sim always wanted to be a detective and has always had a thing for making people laugh. Why not be a detective and a comedian at the same time!?
The heir of the Peach Generation must:
- Have the Foodie, Lazy, and Goofball traits

- Be on the Detective career path
- Get married to a co-worker
- Learn to play an instrument
- Master gourmet cooking and comedy skills
- Live in a different world than the one you were raised in
Ninth: The Green Generation
This tech savvy Sim is a seriously talented hacker and a major tech company has taken notice. The same company that caught you hacking also offered them a job after they saw just how talented they really were. Perhaps they were kind or perhaps they just didn’t want a hacker like this Sim as their enemy. Either way, they’re an established techie that also loves to have a good time.
