Part of the fun in The Sims 4 on PC is creating a family and watching them grow. Sure, watching a child grow up can be fun but changing diapers and dealing with their nonsense might get aggravating. Fortunately for you, The Sims 4 has a handy way for you to quickly grow characters. Here’s how to age up Sims in The Sims 4 on PC.
In The Sims 4, there are two ways to make your child or adult grow into a new age. One way is official and baked into the game’s core gameplay system, while the other way is a cheat. Let’s talk about how to age up your Sim officially.
Here’s How to Age Up Sims in The Sims 4 on PC
The Sims 4 has seven different stages of life: baby, toddler, child, teen, young adult, adult, and elder and you can manually age anyone to any of these life stages with a birthday cake or an option in the game.
Baking a Birthday Cake to Age Up Toddlers & Other Sims
First off, you can age up a Sim by having them make a birthday cake. Have a Sim make a cake by clicking on the oven, selecting ‘Cook’ and choosing ‘Cake.’ Once the cake’s finished baking, you can choose to ‘Add Birthday Candles’ to it with any adult Sim.
Then have whichever Sim you want to age up blow out the candles. If it’s a toddler or younger sim, they’ll need help from an older sim to do this, so select your adult Sims and choose the option to help them blow out the candles. This will grow your Sim from a toddler to a child, or child to a teen.
Baking a birthday cake is the easiest way to age up toddlers in The Sims 4, but it also works for all of your Sims, regardless of their life stage.
Throw a Birthday Party
If you want to go all out, you can host a birthday party for one of your Sims. This requires you to go to your phone and select the ‘Plan a Social Event’ option.
From there, select ‘Birthday Party,’ and choose the Sims whos birthday it’s for and then select the Sims you want to invite. You’ll then need to complete goals like telling jokes, making a group meal, eating cake, playing a game with the Birthday Sim and having drinks.
Not all of these ‘goals’ will show up at every party, and you might have other ones, but any Sim that’s invited to the party can help complete them.
The important thing about ageing up Sims by throwing a birthday party is to make sure you’ve got a birthday cake. After all, what kinda birthday party is it if there’s no cake? A bad one, that’s what it is.
Let Sims Naturally Age Up
If you wish to ignore the birthday options, you can simply wait for them to grow up off-screen.
The amount of time a Sim will take in each life stage varies depending on the stage and what ‘lifespan’ duration you’ve selected in the game’s settings. We’ve given you the time spent in days of a Sim at each stage on the ‘Normal’ lifespan setting below.
Life Stage | Time Spent in Life Stage (Days) |
Baby | 0-3 |
Toddler | 7 |
Child | 13 |
Teen | 14 |
Young Adult | 24 |
Adult | 24 |
Elder | 10+ |
How to Age Up Babies
There’s not a whole lot you can do when a Sim is a baby because… well, they’re a baby. Fortunately, you can get them out of this stage by clicking on their cot and selecting the ‘Age Up’ option. This enables you to get out of this life stage relatively quickly.
Sims 4 Age Up Cheat
To use cheats to age up Sims, you must first open the cheat console by pressing Control (CTRL) + Shift + C.
Once this menu is open, type “testingcheatstrue” and then input “cas.fulleditmode.”
After this, shift click on the Sim you wish to age up and select “Modify in CAS.” In here, you’ll see that you can input any age within the game that you’d like and that transition will happen immediately after.
