From Software are known for the punishing difficulty of their games, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is no exception. Gruesome death at the hands of Sengoku era monstrosities await Sekiro around every corner and these threats will have to be overcome if he is to fulfill his duty to his lord. If you’re here, you’re probably wondering how to get new skills in Sekiro to survive.

Thankfully, you will have an arsenal of skills at your disposal that will allow you to counter every threat you will face. Unlike other From Software titles, Sekiro actually has a skill tree that you will need to familiarize yourself with, the sooner the better.

You will be awarded experience points for every foe you defeat, and earning enough will award you with a skill point. Once you have one, you can return to the Dilapidated Temple and speak with the Sculptor, who will entrust you with the Esoteric Text.

How to Spend Points

With this in hand, rest at any Sculptor’s Idol and you will now have a new option, called Acquire Skills. Here you can use your hard-earned points to fill out the tree and learn all manner of new abilities.

Be on the lookout for other Esoteric Text’s in your journeys, as they will allow you to add even more skills to your repertoire.

Remember that if you die, truly die that is, you will lose half of all the experience points you currently have.

Unlike other Soulsborne titles, these lost experience points are gone for good, and cannot be recovered. Be sure to spend what skill points you have as soon as you can, to avoid any unnecessary heartbreak.
