Sea of Thieves: How to Beat the Kraken

How to Beat the Kraken in Sea of Thieves

Recommended Videos

There are a ton of dangers you need to worry about in Sea of Thieves, be it the skeleton enemies and their captains, or other pirate crews on the high seas trying to sink your ship. Another enemy trumps all of others in Sea of Thieves, though, and that’s the Kraken.

The Kraken can’t simply be tracked down in Sea of Thieves. This thing hunts you down across the seas, waiting for the opportune moment to ambush you, and send you and your ship to rest deep below the waves. Though players can’t track down the Kraken in Sea of Thieves, you’ll get a little warning when it’s nearby, with the color of the water going murky. It doesn’t sound like a huge telltale sign that a giant legendary sea creature is about to terrorize you to no end, but it’s clear enough when it happens to you.

With the Kraken nearby, you’ll have two options. Either a) haul ass like a normal person, or b) take it down and be the hero of the seas. If you chose option B, keep on readin’.

To defeat the Kraken, you’ll need to attack its eight tentacles so it stops poking holes in every surface of your ship that it can see. You can deal damage to the tentacles through either your cannons, ranged handheld weapons, or even your cutlass (though we wouldn’t recommend this). You’ll need to keep hacking away at the Kraken’s tentacles until they’ve all gone underwater and the water has cleared from being all black and horrible.

We suggest grouping up as part of a larger pirate crew than trying to do this on your own. Have someone steering, a few people working the cannons, and someone constantly fixing up the gaping holes in the side of your ship. This makes the whole battle against the Kraken that much more manageable, though you’ll still need to have your wits about you if you’re going to come out on top.

That’s all you need to know to beat the Kraken in Sea of Thieves. For more tips, tricks, and information on the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
