RimWorld: How to Trade

RimWorld tasks players with expanding a colony of crash survivors. After having landed on a planet far from home, it’s up to you to guide them through survival as they endeavor to return back to where they came from. Of course, this means a lot of resource gathering is involved as you build new facilities and provide defenses.

Gathering can be a bit difficult at times, but you aren’t alone out there. Thankfully, RimWorld has a trade system that lets you trade with Faction Trade Caravans and Trade Vessels. These carry resources, gear, slaves, prisoners, and other useful items for your game.  In order to to make a trade with any of these you’ll need to wait until they come withing range.

Trading is done through your comms, so when a caravan or vessel is withing range for communication you’ll be able to trade with them. A notification will appear on your screen to let you know that trade is available, and one will appear once they travel to far to trade with. This means you’ll have a limited time to trade, so if you’re looking to exchange wares, be sure to stay on the lookout for that notification.

Your trades will be heavily affected by the condition of your comms facilities and the colonist you have running the comms. Higher social skills lead to better prices for both selling and buying. But, damaged communications will negatively affect your trades. So always keep that in mind.
