Madhouse Difficulty Differences – Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Hard modes are where legends are born as players tackle their favorite games in the most challenging ways that developers can dream up. Resident Evil 7 dials the difficulty and horror up to 11 with its Madhouse difficulty mode which can be unlocked via pre-order bonus or by beating the game once on any difficulty. Once you unlock it, prepare yourself for a world of differences:
Saving is no longer unlimited and requires Cassettes in Madhouse- You can save as often as you like on Easy or Normal, but with Madhouse you need to have a Cassette which is a single-use item (think the Ribbon from Resident Evil 1). Without one, you can’t save your game, meaning you really need to focus on surviving so you don’t lose all of your progress.
At least there are checkpoints, right? (laughing nervously) – Actually, that’s another feature from Easy and Normal that is given the boot in Resident Evil 7’s Madhouse mode. The only time the game saves is when you save at a recorder. They’re really serious about not holding hands.
Health Regeneration in Madhouse – Yup, that’s gone too. The only way to regain health is by using a healing item.
Are enemies tougher? – Yes, a lot tougher, and faster too. Oh, and we should mention that they require more damage to be put down, and appear in larger numbers.
Item scarcity in Madhouse – Naturally, to up the challenge, items are made rarer this time around. You’ll have to really manage your inventory if you want to survive. Make every shot count, and try not to get hit by anything. However, there are more Antique Coins which allow you to purchase more items to help you out… if you can find them.
That’s all there is to it, but those simple changes make for an entirely new experience. You’ll constantly be under the threat of death and losing all of your progress, so take it slow and make every pull of the trigger count.
