Remnant From the Ashes is here, and it’s just as mysterious and esoteric as the Souls games that inspired it. You will need every advantage you can get, and the Pocket Watch is an item that can be found early that can be incredibly useful. Here’s how to get the Pocket Watch and what it’s used for.
As the game is procedurally generated, there is a certain amount of finger-crossing involved. In my instance of the game, the required parameters did not appear.
It was only after joining a friend’s game that the required character spawned. Remember, you can re-roll your world state from the main menu if required.
How to Find the Pocket Watch in Remnant From the Ashes
In order to get the Pocket Watch, you need to progress past the game’s first dungeon and boss. This can be quite tough, especially as you don’t get much of a warm-up, or a chance to develop your character without some grinding.
Keep at it, and consider playing a public game or enlisting some friends because although the difficulty increases, Remnant is much more manageable with some allies at your back.
Once you have made it through the dungeon alive, you will be in an area called Fairview. There is a chance that an NPC named Mud Tooth will spawn; he is pretty easy to find too, as he is inhabiting a crashed helicopter atop a gnarled tree.
Again, he might not be here. My anecdotal experience is that it is a 50% chance. He wasn’t there on my first run through, but he was there on the second.
If he is there, talk to him. He has a few items for sale, and will also tell you a little about himself and expound on the game’s lore. He likes to talk, and he has a staggering amount of dialogue.
Once it is exhausted though, he will give you the Pocket Watch. It goes into the accessory slot and it will increase your stamina regeneration by 15 per second, and reduce the stamina cost of sprinting and dodging by 15%.
This is huge and should definitely help you get on your feet and is well worth re-rolling your world state to get.
So in summation,
- Clear the first dungeon
Make it through the first dungeon by defeating the boss and exiting into Fairview.
- Check and see if Mud Tooth has spawned
If you don’t see a helicopter ensnared atop a corrupted tree, then you will need to reload your world state and complete the first dungeon again. You will still keep all of your experience and items, and this can be done from the main menu.
- Exhaust all of Mud Tooth’s dialogue
Keep talking to the chatty old geezer until he gives up the goods. He will entrust you with the Pocket Watch.
