Here’s everything you need to know about how to threaten and rob NPCs in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is Rockstar’s first brand new game since Grand Theft Auto V and it’s promising to feature one of the deepest and most varied open worlds we have ever seen. The characters you meet will also react to you differently, depending on how you act.

You can be whatever kind of outlaw you want, threatening people as you explore, or helping out whenever you can. If you want to lean more towards the bad guy route, you can threaten and rob NPCs in the game.

How to Threaten NPCs

If you walk up to an NPC with your weapon holstered, which you do by pressing L1/LB, you can bring up a selection of actions by holding L2/LT. This is what you’ll always want to do whether you want to greet NPCs, threaten NPCs, or rob NPCs, among other interactions.

You need to be near an NPC for them to appear, but one of the actions that will be available is Antagonize. Selecting that option will see you threaten the NPC, and they can react in one of a few different ways. Depending on the situation and the person you’re doing it to, you might scare them away, provoke them to draw their weapon, or they might even immediately attack you.

How to Rob NPCs

If you want to rob NPC in Red Dead Redemption 2, rather than simply threaten them, you want choose the Rob option (triangle/Y in the menu) from the choices that appear when you hold L2/LT. You won’t always be successful, with some NPCs choosing to shoot back at you rather than back down, but most will bow to your demands.

All you’ll get from them is money though, and it’s not always worth the bounty risk or possibility that you’ll quickly be involved in a shoot out.

Of course, if you ride around the Wild West, and threaten or rob NPCs at every possible moment, you’ll become wanted and a bounty will be placed on your head. As your wanted level rises, you’re more likely to be ambushed by bounty hunters and your adventure will be more and more tricky.

That’s everything there is to know about how to threaten and rob NPCs in Red Dead Redemption 2. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our Red Dead Redemption 2 wiki guide.
