Red Dead Online: Do You Need PS Plus or Xbox Live? What You Need to Know

What You Need to Know About PS Plus & Xbox Live in Red Dead Online

As Rockstar slowly rolls out access to the Red Dead Online beta this week, players may be wondering about what they need in order to get started. If you’re having trouble accessing it, you may not have the right version and must wait till later this week. Another thing you may be wondering about is whether you need PS Plus or Xbox Live in order to play Red Dead Online. Here’s everything you need to know.

PS Plus and Xbox Live are subscription services for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, respectively. Members gain access to online cloud storage, can download certain games at no additional cost, and are rewarded with extra discounts on the digital store.

A main feature of PS Plus and Xbox Live is the ability to play online with others. With a few exceptions, having a membership *is* required in order to play most games online.

That holds true for Red Dead Redemption 2, as well. So, if you let your membership lapse or never purchased one to begin with, you will be unable to play Red Dead Online.

Both PS Plus and Xbox live cost $59.99, yearly, with a couple less expensive options for less time. It’s recommended to just go with the year, though, as it’s more cost efficient than buying several four month memberships at $24.99.

You may be able to find some holiday sales on each membership, since they sometimes get discounted during this time of year.

Once you purchase your PS Plus or Xbox Live membership you can jump into the Red Dead Online beta, assuming you have the right version of the base game. All players will be allowed access on Nov. 30, 2018.

That’s everything you need to know about whether you need PS Plus or Xbox Live to play Red Dead Online. As mentioned above, there are a ton of perks for being a member of each service, so take a look at the PS Plus game lineup, as well as your Games with Gold options for December.

As always, if you need any additional assistance with all things Red Dead Redemption 2, our robust Wiki will be sure to help you out.
