How Many Pokemon There Are in Pokemon Sword & Shield

The first thing that you should know about the Galar Pokedex is that there is a specific number of new Pokemon and another number of Pokemon that can be caught in the region or brought in from your other Pokemon games like Let’s Go and Pokemon GO.

As far as new Galarian Pokemon go, there are a whopping total of 80 critters that you’ll be able to find. These range from the starters like Grookey, Sobble, and Scorbunny, to Wooloo and Zamazenta.

How Many Total Pokemon Are in the Pokedex?

So if you have yet to hear the news, there is no national dex in Pokemon Sword & Shield which means that there are several hundreds of Pokemon that have been cut from the game and cannot be transferred in from other titles.

There are about 1000 total Pokemon across the board now, but for Sword and Shield, there are only 400 Pokemon that are in the game.

Game Freak has also stated that no plans are in motion to add in any more Pokemon via updates or patches in the future.

It’s unfortunate that Pokemon veterans won’t be able to bring in some of their favorite Pokemon into these new games but there are still a ton of Pokemon available when you really think about it.
