While much of Pokemon Sword & Shield is pretty simple, catching them all can be tough due to all the hoops you need to jump through. One of the creatures that is difficult to get is Cleffa. So that you can the whole evolution chain, here’s everything you need to know about how to get Cleffa and evolve it into Clefairy.
How to Get Cleffa in Pokemon Sword & Shield
In a kind of backwards way of doing things, but the first thing you need to do is actually catch two Clefairy.
To do so, you’ll need to head to the Motostoke Riverbank section of the Wild Area and ensure that the weather is Heavy Fog.
Getting the weather to be that isn’t easy. What we did was change the time and date on our Switch to the beginning of June 2020. Then, when we returned to the game, the weather immediately changed.
Now, Clefairy should be easy to see wandering around in the grass. Just go up to them, fight them, and try to catch them. You need two for the next step of getting Cleffa.
Once you’ve got them, head north to Bridge Field where you’ll spot a Pokemon Nursery. Just give the woman at the door your two Clefairy and head off for a walk of cycle around.
After a minute or two, you can head back to the Nursery and the attendant should have changed stance, with her hand on her head. If she’s in that stance, you can talk to her and she’ll tell you that the Pokemon you left has an egg for you.
Then, just add it to your party and begin walking around again. It has to be in your active party to work.
After a while of moving around, which will be slightly longer than the first time, the Oh? message will appear on the screen, indicating that the egg is hatching.
Cleffa will then hatch and replace the egg in your party. It will be level one, so you’ll have some work to do to get it battle ready.
How to Evolve Into Clefairy
Then, if you want to evolve Clefairy in Pokemon Sword & Shield, instead of just using one that you caught at the beginning of the process, you need to get the Cleffa to having High Friendship with you.
To do that, you need to do things like use Cleffa in battle, feed them curry, give them the Soothe Bell item to hold, or play with it in Pokemon Camp.
Then, once its Friendship level has reached high, it will evolve in Clefairy the next time it level up.
