Getting Choice Scarf in Pokemon Sword & Shield

To get a the Choice Scarf, you need to follow a side-quest that actually leads you to something else. The first thing you need to do is head to Hammerlocke, which is the big city in the middle of the game’s map, where you’ll find the Vault and one of the gyms.

Once you’re there and you’re at the entrance, head left immediately and keep walking/riding your bike until you reach a set of stairs before the train station, which will be on the left of the path.

Go up them and head to the right where the church is. Outside it, you’ll find a young girl named Paula. Speak to her and she’ll give you a love letter that she wants you to pass on to someone who’s elsewhere in Sword and Shield’s world.

The guy you’ll need to speak to on your journey to get the Choice Scarf is in Ballonlea, so head there.

Head up the stairs on the left and go into the first house you come across.

You’ll then need to speak to the old man in the flat cap, who will tell you a brief story and thank you for delivering you the letter. As a reward for doing so, he will give you the Choice Scarf.

You can carry on the quest by going to speak to the young girl again, but that’s as far as you need to go for now if you’re just trying to get the Choice Scarf.

What Choice Scarf Does in Pokemon Sword & Shield

When you give it to a Pokemon to hold, it will increase its Speed stat in battle. However, at the same time it will restrict the Pokemon to the first move it uses.

Therefore, you need to think about what you’ll want to use for the remainder of the fight once it starts.
